We are leaving the absorption and scatter process behind us (Color) and now move into using the light's energy. We will deal briefly with a general view at all the possible fates of excited states, and then with photosynthesis and photovoltaics:

We continue to talk about Colour Measurement (slides last week), Also we will see what this implies when you want to do Colour Matching

If we have time left we continue with some extra notes on spectroscopy

We continue today with light, colour and vision
(see slides last week)
And we will also take a closer look at the photochemistry of vision:

Also we need an intermezzo with some more photophysical details:

Preparation for April 30th lecture
Now that we have seen the interaction of light with (pigmented) surfaces we take a deeper look into the pigments.
We will surely not cover all slides in full depth, but it may be handy to have the full story retreivable in 4 sets of slides

Optical properties of surfaces, pigments, molecules (part I)
We take a first approach by looking at optical processes relevant for paint surfaces
Here are the slides for 23/04/2014
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_AdLmUQhTCYT2RZSktBNVJaa3c/edit?usp=sharing
We are moving into the optical (other than color) and properties of coatings.
For this we switch to another book:https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1ZYOqb0LuqyYWtCTDZPQlJsckE/edit?usp=sharing
PAINT AND SURFACECOATINGS Theory and Practice 2nd ed.by R LAMBOURNE and T A STRIVENS
My lecture(s) will be based on parts of Chapter 16, 17, 18 and 19

Program Wed April 9: Coatings
The first part will be a general introduction about coatings, which was the part I did not finish of last weeks introductory slides:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_AdLmUQhTCYWGQ3Q1paT1VzT3M/edit?usp=sharing
A very good introductory chapter about coatings is the first chapter of Goldschmidt and Streitberger:
After that we will dive in deeper,
looking at rheology (basics), binder chemistry and filmformation
More detailed slides on binder chemistry (not treated in the lecture, but for the interested):

2014!
Welcome for the new round of this exhillerating course.
I will use this blog to post the slides (please make sure you check the latest version here. There will be slight modifications to last year's slides
I also will post interesting links and movies here, and you can get access to electronic versions of the books we are using.
I wish you good luck for the course
